It’s all in your hair!

Believe it or not, you would rather less lather.  Here’s why: Most of the sudsy lather in shampoo is caused by chemicals called surfactants.  Surfactants actually strip the hair, leaving it completely void of moisture, or “squeaky-clean.”  The “squeak” in squeaky-clean is actually caused by the friction of dry objects rubbing together.  Most of the lather in commercial shampoos is created simply by the surfactant molecules mixing with air and has no actual effect on the cleansing power of the product itself.  Product marketers and manufacturers realized years ago that most consumers take comfort in the psychological effect of the suds; that “ Oooh, it’s cleaning! ” feeling.  In other words, it’s all in your head.
